Over the years the festival has hosted a wide range of famous names and 2016 will be no different. “Country Comes To Town” has always had, at its heart, a great love of country music. And we promise that 2016 will be better than ever before. On stage in St. Mark’s Plaza, our backing band this year will be the excellent “Country Features”. Our star attraction on Saturday afternoon will be the fabulous Declan Nerney. And joining Declan throughout the day will be old favourites such as Billy McFarland, Michael McSparron, Thomas Maguire and Fiona Ennis, Maeve Farrell, Lawrence Taffe and Boxcar Brian.
And bring your dancing shoes along to Festival Saturday because, at various stages throughout the day, we’ll be having Matthew Sloan and his fabulous Jiving Team showing us all the right steps on the Plaza.
And located at strategic locations around the town there’ll be even more country music from the likes of Garth Hamilton, Kenny Fearon, Steven Beckett, Wee Tom, Shauna McStravock, The Duets, Colin Harney and last but certainly not least, Kenny Paul.
But even before we get as far as the Festival on Saturday 17th, we’ve organized a real treat for local country music fans. On the previous day we’ve got a great personality bringing his BBC Radio Ulster Show to Portadown. Yes, you’re right! It is ‘The Wee Man From Strabane’, the larger than life Mr Hugo Duncan himself with the Hugo Duncan Show from St. Mark’s Plaza between 1.30 and 3.00 pm on Friday 16th September. What better start for our Fesival could we have than having Hugo entertain us for an afternoon?
